Newstead Brass is very sad to announce that their long standing MD, Duncan Beckley is stepping down from that role.

The Reg Vardy Band are pleased to announce the appointment of Brenden Wheeler as the band’s new Resident Music Director.

The waiting is almost over for senior members of the NYBBS as they prepare to travel to Norway for their summer course.

Midlands Youth Band Holds Inaugural Meeting

Last Sunday, 28 young players from the Midlands area met for the first North East Midlands Youth Band course. Led by Michael Fowles (Musical Advisor) along with tutors Richard Marshall, Stan Lippeatt, Michael Dodds, Brett Baker, Simon Gresswell and Adie Smith, the talented youngsters took part in workshops, sectionals and full band rehearsals, before performing Alan Fernie’s Anglian Dances and African Funk to an audience of over 70 parents and supporters.

Youth Band Director Martin Heartfield said “I was delighted with the success of our first meeting and the feedback from players and parents was fantastic. The standard of playing after only meeting for a few hours really shows what can be achieved.”

Plans are already in place for further courses over the next year with a joint concert to be announced shortly.
