New Imps Duo Arrive In Yorkshire
Yorkshire Imps announce two new signings this week in the form of Jenny Cook and Cathryn Rogers.
Jenny started playing aged 10 whilst growing up in Norfolk. During her teenage years she joined the Drayton Band in Norwich and enjoyed her first experience of brass band contesting. Inspired by the Masters which were held in Cambridge and the film ‘Brassed Off’, she applied to study Music at Leeds University. After graduating in 2002 Jenny joined Elland Silver Band on solo baritone. She then transferred to the United Co op Yorkshire band in 2006 where she met her husband Andi Cook. Jenny remained with the band until they folded in 2010. Between 2010 and 2015 Jenny has had spells at Wakefield Metropolitan, Hebden Bridge and most recently Drighlington Band.
Cathryn Rogers has been interested in music since an early age, playing the recorder until switching to flute at the age of 12. She started playing percussion in 2009 at the Ireland Colliery Chesterfield Band and was part of their successive promotions from the 4th to the 1st section. Whilst studying music at the University of Huddersfield, Cathryn signed for the Barnsley Metropolitan Band. In 2013 they won the best percussion prize and promotion at the Yorkshire area. After graduating Cathryn moved back to the Ireland Colliery Chesterfield Band before moving in 2016 to the Blidworth Welfare band which saw another trip to the National Finals in Cheltenham and her first time playing in the Championship section.
In February of 2016 Cathryn took on the role of Musical Director at the Deepcar Brass Band in Sheffield. Since taking the band on, they have received their two highest placings in the band’s history at the Yorkshire Areas, and have achieved other success at various entertainment and test piece contests.
Cathryn is looking forward to playing with the band and taking part also in the social side of the band which is developing quickly as the excitement builds for the future.
Band Chairman, Bob Morton told A4B: ‘Jenny joined imps team LADA (a name fondly given to the Baritone by Alan Morrison) in July 2017 and has quickly established herself as a valuable asset to the band. We are also delighted to welcome Cathryn to the band; she has helped us out on many occasions in the past and we have always had her “in our sights” so were extremely happy when the opportunity presented itself to make the signing.”
