Mutual Delight At Downton Training Band
Budding musicians in Downton are celebrating after gaining support from NFU Mutual, the UK’s leading rural insurer. Downton Training Band has been awarded a grant from the NFU Mutual Community Giving Fund to help purchase new music for their growing band of brass players.
Downton’s Musical Director Paul Williams, told A4B: “We are extremely grateful to NFU Mutual for their support for our band. Our training band is just about to celebrate our second birthday and most of our members have been learning with us from scratch so we are rapidly running out of music to play! This grant will help the band purchase new music that will help us improve as brass players. We are open to anyone who wishes to come along and learn how to play an instrument. For just £1 a week you will get expert tuition, a weekly rehearsal, plenty of performance opportunities and the loan of an instrument to take home to practice. Learning a musical instrument can be very expensive but we want to make access to music making open to everyone so there will also be a bursary available for those who genuinely can not afford the subscriptions.”
