Composers Wanted to Pen New BrassFestUK 2018 Theme
The BrassFestUK project for 2018 has been launched and the addition of a Composition Contest has proved to be a popular add-on to the hugely successful 2017 event.
The event will take place over the weekend of the 6th, 7th and 8th July and the Anthem for BrassFestUK 2018 will come from the winner of the event’s Composition Contest, which is supported by Cory Band.
The judging panel for the event will be Christopher Bond, Gavin Somerset and Philip Harper and it is hoped that a piece to rival the hugely popular ‘Spirit of Brass’ will come from the contest.
Event organiser Rob Tompkins told A4B: ‘The success of the 2017 event was largely due to the popularity of Gavin’s composition. By adding a composition contest to the event, it opens the door to an up and coming talent who can showcase their work. The winning piece will be recorded by Cory, be published and distributed by Pennine Music and is expected to be played by more than 120 brass bands across the world.’
Philip Harper and Cory have put together a short video on how to write for brass band, which can be found on the BrassFestUK website.
The BrassFestUK website has now been updated and bands wishing to take part in the 2018 event are encouraged to visit it to register for the event. There will be a map which shows where each band is playing and also posters for band events can be sent to the organiser and these will be added to the website.
