Steven Mead Prepares Repertoire for Bolsover Summer School
Plans for the 6th Bolsover International Summer School to be held between the 22nd – 27th July are well under way
Speaking ahead of the course Steven Mead told A4B: “I am looking forward to directing my first Bolsover Summer School and welcoming the new (and returning) delegates. Once again we have devised an exciting programme of events including full and sectional rehearsals, one to one lessons, tutors ‘treat’ concert, delegates concert, sight reading sessions (on Life Devine, Renaissance and Symphony of Marches) and an outdoor concert at the National Trust attraction Hardwick which attracts thousands of visitors every day’
‘In relation to the music programme I have put a lot of thought into repertoire that the delegates will find musically and technically challenging but will be enjoyable to play. This year we will perform a new work by Paul Lovatt-Cooper entitled ‘The Forces Unleashed’ as well as William Himes newly commissioned work ‘Intrepid Overture.’ Other pieces will include Innuendo, The Saga of Haakin the Good, Mountain Song, Praise, Jurassic Park, ORB and solos from tutors Mark Wilkinson, Rebecca Lundberg and myself on the final concert. Course coordinator Carole Hirst has also commissioned a March entitled ‘Bolsover Castle’ by Gavin Somerset in memory of David Morris, who was a valued member of the Summer School staff. Gavin was a personal friend of David’s and Carole felt it was fitting that Gavin undertook the commission.’
