Legends In Brass Returns
Legends In Brass returns for another years following on from its initial success in 2017.
Organiser, Mike Kilmartin told A4B: ‘Late in 2016 I was toying with the idea of organising a `benefit` concert. Building the concept was easy: I knew plenty of legends willing to perform, but I had never done anything like this before and I had to consider which charities might benefit from the proceeds raised. This was a relatively easy decision at the time, as I had a good friend who had been diagnosed with breast cancer and one of my oldest friends needed help for her son who was, and still is, fighting Hodgkin`s Lymphoma and the treatment he needs is not available on the NHS. That set the pattern for me and all the monies raised from the first “Legends” concert in July 2017 went to “Boobs and Brass” and the “Save Stephen Fund”’.
Last year, alongside Hatfield & Askern Colliery Band, some of the `greats` within the brass banding world, including Alan Morrison, Mark Walters, Stephen Sykes, Steve Sykes and Kevin Holdgate, all agreed to perform as guest soloists for the evening and there was Stan Lippeat (a `legend` himself), hosting, conducting and compering the evening.
Mike continued: ‘We did well on our first venture, which gave us the confidence to move forward with the concept. The 21st of July 2018 is the first follow-on and we remain focused on raising funds for charities associated with Cancer treatment. This time we are supporting Breast Cancer Now and the Chatsfield Suite at Doncaster Royal Infirmary.
Tickets are on sale now from Mike at and cost £10. Under-16’s go free. Please email [email protected]
