YorkshEIRE Connections Made In Silkstone & Waterford
The Old Silkstone Band have just returned from Ireland after being invited to take part in the International Street Arts Festival – Spraoi!
The band performed two themed programmes over the course of their weekend visit. Two Disney themed programmes saw the players of the band dressed up as Disney characters. On the second day, there were two more traditional concerts with the band dressed in the more traditional attire.
A spokesperson for the band told A4B: ‘To kick start the weekend, OSB joined The City of Waterford Band for a lovely reception in their band room. It was a huge privilege to meet the Metropolitan Mayor Cllr Joe Kelly and thank you to all of City of Waterford Band for their hospitality and looking after us. I can honestly say the weekend we have just had in Ireland was absolutely amazing. It’s great that these strong friendships are built through music. We all had so much fun and thoroughly enjoyed being part of the Spraoi. We are already getting ideas down on paper to have the City of Waterford Band come over to Barnsley for a concert or two.’
Kevin Power from the City of Waterford Band told A4B: ‘It was an amazing weekend and a very proud moment for me. To have my friends from Old Silkstone Band perform in Waterford and to be part of the band, with my family and friends looking was fanatic! Thank you to all the guys and girl for making a dream come true.’
