175th Year Rounded Off With Highest Ever Contest Result
Amersham Band are celebrating 4th place in the first section of the National Brass Band Championship, having only been promoted to the First Section last year. This is the band’s highest ever result and adds icing to the cake of celebrations of the 175th year since the first record of the band in 1843.
Playing against 16 of the top first section bands from across the country at the Finals in Cheltenham, the band drew the last performance slot and had a long wait before taking the stage at 9pm. Nevertheless, the adjudicators were impressed with their performance, summarising; “A solid and well managed performance with good solo lines and band sound”.
Band Chairman, Fred Harrison told A4B: “we are delighted with this result, it is a great achievement and a just reward for all the hard work that went into preparing the test piece. We only had a short time for rehearsals, as the band had been on a trip to our twin town, Bensheim, just two weeks ago.”
