High Note Finish To Emley Contesting Season
Emley brass band finished their contesting year on a high, as they scooped four prizes on a trip to the recent Oxford and District Brass Band Association entertainment contest.
Taking part in the third section, Emley were awarded best musical performance and most entertaining performance. They also went on to claim two ‘best of the day’ awards, these going to solo horn player Marie Bedford for best horn and musical director, Garry Hallas for best compere.
This completes a steady progression throughout the year having started out in January with 4th at Butlins, followed by 3rd at the Yorkshire Area, Bolsover saw the band pick up 2nd spot and then peak with two 1st places at ODBBA.
The band are also delighted to announce that they have a new principal cornet player, Jennifer Turner, who has started off her Emley tenure with a win! Garry Hallas, Musical Director, told A4B “We’ve had some great performances this year in concert and contest. It’s nice to see the trophy cabinet filling up! Now it’s back to the bandroom to prepare for our remembrance duties, followed about a bout of carolling.”
