Rothwell Bid Farewell to Stalwart Player
The Rothwell Band are sad to announce that experienced Cornet player, Andrew Riley, has taken the difficult decision to retire from playing as of December 2018.
In an impressive career spanning over 20 years, Andrew has played in countless fine performances as well as helped the band to achieve many accolades, including: 2 Grand Shields, Yorkshire Area Titles in both the 1st Section and Championship Section, the Swiss Open Championship and all England International Masters, to name but a few.
RTB Conductor Dave Roberts told A4B: “Andrew was and always will be a highly respected member of RTB. He is somewhat of a role model and mentor to some of our younger players and will be a sorely missed member of our established Cornet Section.”
Andrew, who recently became a grandfather for the first time, will continue in his role as RTB Band Manager, however will no longer be playing on a regular basis.
During an emotional speech at the Annual Christmas Band Dinner, Andrew mentioned how much he had enjoyed playing with the band over the years and how he is looking forward to spending more time focussing on being RTB Band Manager. As a token of our appreciation for his hard work and dedication, Andrew was presented with a beautiful Crystal Decanter to mark the occasion.
We hope you join us in wishing Andrew all the best for his retirement from playing and continue to support him in his role as RTB Band Manager!
