New Solo Tuba at Black Dyke
Black Dyke Band are delighted to announce that the experienced and very talented Gavin Saynor has accepted the position as Solo Tuba at the Queensbury band.
Black Dyke’s Music Director, Prof. Nicholas Childs, told A4B: “Gavin is an outstanding player and I look forward to welcoming him into a section with such a wealth of experience. I would also like to pay tribute to the outgoing tuba of Harry Cunningham, who relinquished his position to focus on his Masters Degree at the RNCM, which is taking him in a new classical direction. We wish Harry all the very best for his future.
Black Dyke advertised for a tuba, which saw considerable interest and since there will be occasions when Gavin will have challenges due to his travelling and family commitments, Black Dyke Music Director confirmed the band is also creating a new position within the section, as associate tuba. Therefore I am delighted to announce Harry Beach, 2nd year student at the RNCM, and past Principal Tuba of the NYBB, has accepted this role.”
Gavin told A4B: “I am looking forward to joining such a great band and working with Dr Nick Childs. I am particularly excited about the fantastic events planned for the future and relish the opportunities this position will give me. Teaming up with fellow Welshmen Daniel Thomas and Matthew Routley is also something I can’t wait for, as is being part of a wonderful section. I would also like to pass on my best wishes to Garry Cutt and all at the Fairey band.”
