Young Horn Star Receives Trevor Bousfield Cup
Competing at the annual York R I Band Section Solo and Ensemble Contest held in February Gabriel Snowden, Solo Horn player of York R I Band, was the first recipient of the Trevor Bousfield Cup.
The prize has been sponsored by Brian in memory of his twin brother, Trevor Bousfield, a former Musical Director of the band. It is particularly apt that the award recognises the most promising 17 years and under player given that Trevor devoted so much of his time to teaching his two talented sons, Ian and Howard, the art of being a musician.
Gabriel performed a spellbinding rendition of On My Own from Les Misérables, that found favour with adjudicator Dr Alasdair Jamieson from Durham University who said “Gabriel has a warm and tender tone, very assured and well supported.”
Clive Marshall, the Band Chairman, presented Gabriel with his prize and told A4B: “Gabriel has incredible musical potential with a purity of tone and technique that is a credit to his teachers and I would say the way his talent is being nurtured by R I Band. He is a very worthy first recipient of this award”
