Brighouse & Rastrick Release WWI Song

Brighouse and Rastrick Brass Band Marks The 100th Anniversary Of The End Of World War One, With A New Release “Last Post Home”.

The world famous Brighouse and Rastrick Band have released a new song to mark the 100th anniversary of the signing of the Armistice on 11 November 1918.

Entitled “Last Post Home”, the track has been specially written by Della Holliday and Adrian Williams in memory of those who served, or fell, in the Great War of 1914-18.

Members of the Honley Male Voice Choir, were enlisted to sing the track. The brief given to their Musical Director, Steven Roberts, was to record a vocal performance which captured a hint of the common man marching to war.

Last Post Home has a haunting melody with evocative lyrics about a soldier’s last letter home. Dramatic, progressive harmonies and ethereal counter-melodies help capture and reflect the emotion of life, and death, in the trenches of World War One.

There’s also an instrumental version of the song featuring soloist Mike Eccles on Flugel Horn.

The song’s co-writer, Della Holliday told A4B: “It’s a once in a lifetime opportunity be able to compose a song to commemorate the signing of the Armistice one hundred years ago, and to have Brighouse and Rastrick Brass Band, one of the most successful musical ensembles in British history, record it. It’s a chance to honour those who fought and who fell. The Honley Male Voice Choir chaps did a sterling job to produce just the vocal effect we needed. We hope it will be played many times, both now and in future, so that the brave are never forgotten.”

Award winning video producer Ruth Coggins was recruited to produce a video featuring “Tommy”, an animated soldier, and which is available on YouTube at https://youtu.be/BzVh_fFvi1U
