Young Rising Star At Blidworth
Blidworth Welfare Band are delighted to welcome their cornet Protege, Corey Kohut to the band entering the cornet bench in the 3rd Cornet seat.
Corey is 13 years old and has been playing since he was 8, where he found the love of the cornet having class lessons in primary school.
He recently took his Grade 5 performance exam passing with distinction and receiving praise for his articulation, phrasing and musicianship.
Corey joins Blidworth Welfare Band in the Championship Section from Ilkeston Brass (4th Section) where he moved through the ranks onto the front row and performed at the last three of the band’s Regional Championships, Bolsover Contest and Denby Pottery contest and also compèred at some of those events.
Corey also plays for the band of Derbyshire Army Cadet Force (ACF) under the baton of Lieutenant Peter Ward and at a recent camp was awarded the prize for the best cadet in the senior band and won The Last Post competition achieving a score of 80/82.
He has been the winner of the Derby Arts Festival U16 Brass solo in 2017 & 2018 and also had wins at the last two Selston Music festivals .

Musical Director, Simon Oates told A4B: “We are delighted to welcome Corey to the band and look forward to supporting him in his musical career. He is certainly a name to watch out for in the future”.
